A 6-year-old boy is brought to the pediatrician’s offi ce by his mother for “bumps” on the
child’s abdomen that have been present for over a month. The mother reports fi rst
noticing the lesions shortly after the child started attending day care. She has tried a
variety of topical over-the-counter medications, but nothing has helped. She is
concerned because the lesions seem to be increasing in number and spreading across
the child’s abdomen. The child is otherwise healthy. On physical examination, the
child is well appearing. Multiple 2- to 5-mm dome-shaped, shiny papules, most with a
central umbilication are observed on the child’s abdomen . Two similar
lesions are also observed around the child’s left eye.
